"My husband was suffering from dementia. In about 2015, he began having three-day respite breaks in one of the charming little bedrooms at the Cottage, where he made a new friend... At the time, I was finding my own respite in making short films, as part of the Maleny Film Society.

 

I decided to set a film about marriage in the room which was a metaphor for the damage dementia made to my own marriage. The staff at the Cottage were thrilled with our mini drama played out in the cottage bedroom.

Actress Pat D. played a woman who remembered enough to insist on wearing her wedding dress on her wedding anniversary. Her husband, played by Andrew W. , brought her a wedding photograph - and she recognised it! One of those flashes of memory that I witnessed during Richard's six years of Dementia...
